Essay on Importance of Reduce Reuse Recycle
Reduce reuse recycle or 3 R’s are three ways to manage waste by cutting down amount of waste created, conserve energy, natural resource and landfill space.
Cuts down on growing waste: In this world, we cannot grow the waste to zero or stop its production. But we can reduce, reuse and recycle a lot of waste especially the organic waste in the form of compost to cut down the growing waste. This in turn will reduce landfill waste that results in a host of other problems.
Reduces waste during manufacturing: Industrial waste is the largest contributors to increasing waste and poses a real challenge in its disposal. With reuse and recycling of by-products generated at a factory, we can significantly reduce manufacturing waste. Also adopting new techniques and manufacturing units that are efficient in generating less waste will help the cause.
Promotes sustainable development: With rapid waste generation happening today because of steadfast development around the world, reduce reuse recycle is important to keep the pace of development going while ensuring that our planet doesn’t become a huge dumping ground. Adopting the 3 R’s methods will put a control on waste production and conserve natural resources for future.
Keeps environment clean: If reduce reuse recycle methods are used on a large scale in homes and at work, it will greatly help to keep the environment clean. It is one of the best ways to manage waste paper cups, plastics, lighters, electronics etc. With less waste generation and dumping, there will be less pollution of the soil.
Extends the use of natural resources: While a lot of natural resources are limited or cannot be reclaimed, reduce reuse recycle methods can support greater resource efficiency and extend the lifespan of resources.
Stops pollution of water systems: As 3 R’s eliminate the need for dumping of oil, plastic, chemicals, and sewage waste in the water systems, it reduces pollution.
Decreases the formation and release of greenhouse gases: Greenhouse gases such as methane is produced when organic matter undergoes anaerobic decomposition. This can be reduced with reduce, reuse and recycle. Moreover, by reducing the use of fossil fuels and by adopting fuel efficiency methods the emission of a major greenhouse gas carbon dioxide can be reduced.
Helps in tackling climate change: Climate change and global warming happens due to a number of factors such as logging, quarrying, mining, refining, emission from the processing of raw materials. With recycling, reducing and reusing these activities can be minimized and it aids in combating climate change.
Reduces the need for mining and extraction: Mining and extraction lead to groundwater pollution, sedimentation, and soil erosion. Also due to large size excavation huge acres of land become unusable for cultivation due to removable of rocks and topsoil. By reduce recycle and reuse we limit the need for metals and mineral ore.
Curbs burning of waste: In places where laws are grey about burning waste, plastics are burnt in the open air due to lack of knowledge of its hazards on the environment. This releases poisonous gases in the air and the residue left in the ash causes soil pollution. With recycling and reuse, the waste is managed better and it curbs the act of burning.
Garbage disposal becomes more manageable: As the first phase of reduce, recycle and reuse, waste is sorted out into different categories, mainly as organic and inorganic. This makes garbage disposal methodical, effective and avoids irresponsible dumping of waste on waste on a site which creates a host of other environmental problems.
Prevents soil pollution: Due to unhealthy waste management techniques especially dumping of the toxic waste from the industries, soil gets polluted. The glass, plastic, paper, lime, and other material based waste if recycled and reused it greatly cuts down soil pollution.
Conserves natural resources: A lot of waste that usually gets into trash can be reclaimed by applying methods of reduce, recycle and reuse or the three R’s. When substitutes of natural resources, for instance plastic for wood are recycled it conserves trees. Likewise other natural resources such as water, wood, minerals, and fossil fuels can be conserved.
It leads to job creation: The three R’s create green jobs. According to a study by 2030 US recycling will create 1.1 million new jobs. The jobs are spread across various levels such as collection, processing and sorting of waste. Also, reduce reuse recycle benefits both low and high skilled people.
Reduces energy consumption: Reusing already processed materials cuts down energy consumption that goes into manufacturing significantly. It eliminates the need to produce new products from scratch. This avoids the need to run heavy machinery, use of new natural resources, and labor.
Improper disposable of waste is a key factor leading to environmental pollution in this day and age. Reduce recycle reuse is a brilliant way to profitably and scientifically address this problem and shape our sustainable civilization.
